What is Gynecologic Surgery?
Gynecologic surgery refers to surgical procedures on a woman’s reproductive system, including the vagina, uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.
Our gynecologic surgeons also perform procedures on a woman’s urinary tract, including the bladder.
Types of Treatments
At Alpha Surgical Center, we specialize in the following gynecologic surgery procedures:
A hysterectomy is a surgery to remove the uterus through an incision in the lower abdomen. Our team can provide both partial and total hysterectomy depending on the needs of each patient.
Endometrial ablation is a procedure designed to remove the endometrium, a thin layer of tissue that lines the uterus.
The procedure aims to reduce or stop heavy menstrual bleeding in women who don’t plan to become pregnant later in life.
A dilation and curettage, also called D&C, is a minor outpatient surgical procedure.
The procedure involves dilating the cervix to scrape the endometrium or uterine lining in order to remove abnormal tissue.
Dilation and curettage help treat certain uterine conditions such as heavy bleeding and clear the endometrium after a miscarriage or abortion.
This outpatient examination of the inside of the cervix and uterus. The procedure has several applications, namely:
- Perform a biopsy
- Remove fibroid tumors or polyps
- Reduce bleeding by destroying tissue using electric current, heat, freezing, or chemicals
The procedure in which your physician can view and examine the urinary tract, including the bladder, the urethra, and the ureters’ openings, is known as cystoscopy.
Cystoscopy is instrumental in detecting problems within the urinary tract. Some common issues that cystoscopy helps identify are infection, early signs of cancer, bleeding, narrowing, or blockage.
Bladder suspension surgery is a procedure used to treat stress incontinence in women.
The procedure involves lifting and securing the bladder and urethra to nearby structures, most often the pelvic bone. The goal of the surgery is to minimize or eliminate involuntary bladder leakage.
Gynecologic laparoscopy is an excellent alternative to open surgery.
Laparoscopy procedures have many uses, including diagnosing and treating chronic pelvic pain, fibroid tumors, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and infertility.
